# What is the storage limit for files in Canvas?

The Columbia University default quota for course sites on Canvas is 1500MB. 

In order to see how much storage you have available on your CourseWorks site, navigate to the "Files" section within your desired course, where you will see your storage usage displayed at the bottom of the page. It is usually as a percentage of your total storage quota. You can also access your personal file storage by clicking on "Account" and then "Files" in the global navigation menu.

If you want to store  large video files, use the Course Video Recording (Panopto)s tool. This tool appears in your course navigation. There is no file size limit for videos hosted here.

Additional file space for your CousreWorks site is managed by CUIT. To request additional file space in Canvas contact [courseworks@columbia.edu](mailto:courseworks@columbia.edu) with your course information, semester, space requirements, and reason for the request.
