How do I turn off the Canvas calendar function for students?

The Calendar is part of the global navigation so each Canvas member has their own Calendar that aggregates from each of their courses. Also, the syllabus tool has a list at the bottom that aggregates all course content with a due date. Neither of these can be turned off.
