Can I rename the links or buttons on the left course navigation pane?

Can I rename the buttons on the left course navigation pane? No! Canvas purposely doesn't allow you to rename the navigation pane.  This is done for two reasons, because students complain that they get confused because different courses name things different things, and because it renders the Canvas documentation useless.  To see more on this topic please check this Canvas Community Forum  https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/1794
